Selección Especial is Don Q's way of showing the distillery's range in one bottle — a curated marriage of Serrallés rums selected by the family's master blender. Destilería Serrallés has made rum in Ponce, on Puerto Rico's south coast, since 1865, six generations of one family, distilling molasses with water from the Río Inabón and aging in ex-bourbon American oak in the Caribbean heat; the house is known for clean, elegant Spanish-style column rums with no flavorings, colorants, or sweeteners added. Selección Especial draws on the distillery's aged stocks — rums matured for years in bourbon barrels, chosen for balance rather than a single age statement — and is bottled at 40% ABV; check your label for the batch details. Expect the Don Q house style at its most polished: a nose of toffee, vanilla, soft baking spice, and light dried fruit over toasted oak, opening into a smooth, medium-bodied palate of caramel, honey, a faint tropical note, and gentle wood, finishing warm and clean. Honest note: this is a refined, easygoing Puerto Rican sipper rather than a funky pot-still rum or a cask-strength single cask — The Lone Caner's verdict on Don Q's 40% range is that it carries the standard nobly without shaking the world, and the Double Cask Cognac is where the house gets serious. For a Rum Old Fashioned, a very good Daiquiri, or neat over one cube, it's Ponce's special selection at an everyday price.Buy Don Q Seleccion Especial Rum online with fast shipping right to your door.
