Powers Gold Label Irish Whiskey is the flagship of a brand founded in Dublin in 1791 by James Power, whose John's Lane Distillery was once the largest in the city. Today Powers is made at Midleton Distillery in County Cork as a blend built around a high proportion of triple-distilled pot still whiskey, aged in bourbon barrels and bottled at 43.2% ABV (86.4 proof). That pot still backbone makes it spicier and fuller than most Irish blends: honey and vanilla on the nose, a robust palate of cereal, dried fruit and cracked pepper, and a warming finish. It is the whiskey Dublin publicans have poured for generations, and it drinks well neat, with a splash of water, or in an Irish coffee or Hot Toddy. This 750ml bottle is a great-value Irish whiskey with more character than its price suggests.
