Other Products ｜Chinese Man: The Groove Sessions Vol.1 Vinyl 2LP

2007 compilation of early EPs from French trip hop trio scene repressed on wax! The anthology showcases Chinese Man (High Ku, Sly Dee, Zé Mateo)'s mastery of sampling and production, drawing influences from funk, dub, and world music. Known for their innovative approach to mixing old vinyl samples with modern beats, Chinese Man stands out in the crowded French downtempo and trip-hop scene, and notable tracks like "I've Got That Tune" have made appearances in films and commercials. The album's distinctiveness lies in its seamless fusion of diverse musical elements, enhanced by guest appearances from scratch DJ and beatmaker LeYan, adding layers of depth to their sonic palette. For listeners new to Chinese Man, start with "I've Got That Tune" for its catchy loops and nostalgic feel. "Artichaut" is another standout, blending hypnotic rhythms with soulful vocal samples, showcasing their skill in creating atmospheric, groove-laden tracks.
